Service Description: The Bréifne Region is located in the North-West of Ireland. This region is geographically and geologically distinct from surrounding areas, and has a widely varying landscape, with the beaches of Sligo on the west coast, the mountainous Ben Bulben region and the lakes of west Cavan. The region is very scenic with numerous superb panoramas as well as rolling drumlins and pastoral farmland.
The project was funded by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) under the Measure ‘Cross-border cooperation - Improving cross-border public sector co-operation between 2004 - 2006.
The project partners were Cavan, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo County Councils, Fermanagh District Council, Geological Survey Ireland, Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, the Academy of Irish Cultural Heritages at the University of Ulster and Cavan Enterprise Board.
Data was collected in the field using GPS and digital cameras. It was also collected from external sources.
It is a vector dataset. Vector data portray the world using points, lines, and polygons (areas).

Subject: The Bréifne project aims to promote sustainable economic development within the Region, particularly within the tourism sector. Local authorities use the data to promote these sites as places to visit. The data is of use to the tourism sector.
